Root Canal Treatment

The removal of infected nerve tissue from inside a tooth, followed by cleaning and sealing the root canal system. This is for patients experiencing nerve pain or infection who wish to save their natural tooth instead of extracting it.

If left untreated

Pain and infection can worsen. Abscess and bone loss around the root may follow.

Delay can leave the tooth unrestorable.

Methodology

Treatment Stages

  1. Step 1. Anaesthesia and access

The tooth is numbed and opened under magnification.

  2. Step 2. Cleaning and fill

Canals are cleaned, shaped, and sealed. A temporary or permanent filling closes the top.

  3. Step 3. Restore

A crown is planned for most molars and premolars to protect against fracture.

Questions

Will it hurt?

Local anaesthetic is used. Post-operative tenderness is managed with standard pain relief.

Why a crown afterwards?

Root-treated back teeth fracture more easily without full coverage.
