Night guards and tooth wear

A hard splint protects worn teeth at night. It is made after the bite has been examined, not from a shop-bought mould.

Who is assessed

Patients with flattened edges, fractured fillings, or morning jaw ache are examined before a splint is prescribed.

A MODJAW record at Marylebone is used when the slide of the jaw needs to be seen.

The appliance

The guard is hard acrylic, made over two visits.

It does not move teeth. If alignment is also required, that is a separate orthodontic plan.
